Chapman, Herbert (1878 – 1934) - Legendary Arsenal Football Club manager
Appointed manager of Arsenal in 1925. The team won the FA Cup in 1929-30, and the League Championship in 1930-1 and 1932-3. In order to attract crowds, he changed the name of the closest underground station from Gillespie Road to Arsenal in 1932.

Kathleen Kitty Godfree (1896-1992), Olympic and Wimbledon lawn tennis champion
James, C.L.R. (1901-1989)
Political activist, novelist, playwright, historian and renowned cricket writer. From 1981 until his death on 31 May 1989, C.L.R. James lived at 165 Railton Road in Brixton
